Apps to Track Your Android Devices When Stolen

Recently, i started writing posts on How to track your smartphones if stolen or lost. I have written on Apple devices and Blackberry devices. So it is time to see what apps are out there for you to enable you track your Android device.
There are a huge amount of applications for android devices and it would be impossible to list all the tracking apps available on Google Play store. However, great apps that I have tried personally will be listed here and you can make you choice of which better suit you.

1. GPS Tracking Pro
This app allows you to track people especially your family and friends in real time using any android phone.
However, you can also use it to track your android device if stolen. All you have to do is have the app already installed on your device or the device you want to monitor and then use the mobile map to track the device from another android phone or internet.
This app can be downloaded from the Google Play store.

2. Locate My Droid
This is yet another wonderful app that can be used to locate and track your android device if stolen. You need to have this app installed on your device before its stolen or lost and then log into the website www.locatemydroid.com to track your android device.
The features of this app are great and are as follows

• It is easy
• battery life doesnt drain as the app may not run in the background if you wish it. It can be activated online to start monitoring
• It is quite very accurate
• it is secure

 It can be downloaded from Google Play store

3. Find My Phone
A nice app i must say. Recently updated for more polish effect and feel. It does what its suppose to do as the name implies. It is compatible with so many android phones too and its free as the previous ones.
Just like the other apps, it is required that you install it on your device and then create an account.
You can even monitor your friends and family members by sending an sms to them. If they reply the sms with a "yes", then you can monitor them provided they have the app installed on their device also.

Features are as follows

• quite accurate if you have the recent updated version
• Monitor non android phones too since the app is supported on other OS like iOS etc.

This app is free and can be downloaded from the Google Play store.

Like i said earlier, there are huge amount of  apps that can be used to track your phone. However, these ones i have used and tested. They are good and you can try it out yourself. You dont need to install all of them on your device as they can affect the battery life of your device.

Review

Lenovo is on a mission with the ThinkPad. Its a mission of not just making the Chinese vendors business-bent laptops thinner and lighter, but simpler, more stylish and more versatile.

Scores in depth

One of Lenovos recent attempts at modernizing the brand is the ThinkPad T440s, a 14-inch professional grade ultrabook that sacrifices little, if anything, to meet Intels standards for ultrabook status. But is this ThinkPad enough to rattle the competition, namely the HP ZBook 14 and 13-inch MacBook Air? This laptop certainly tries to, but quickly loses its ultrabook status in that effort.

The T440s comes packing a 1920 x 1080, 10 point multi-touch IPS panel, fingerprint reader and hot swappable battery technology before clicking the "Checkout" button. This is all crammed inside a slick, smooth carbon fiber and magnesium frame at a mere .80 inches thin. Thats certainly a start. Sadly, this laptop lacks the dedicated graphics processing of the ZBook 14 and the whiffs on the pure portability of the MacBook Air in attempting to match its longevity.

Modernizing a classic

Aside from hinges that can bend 180 degrees, the T440s doesnt have many tricks up its sleeve. This is no ThinkPad Yoga, but its far from bare bones. With carbon fiber wrapping the notebooks clamshell lid and keyboard deck, and magnesium covering its base, this ultrabook more than delivers as far as connectivity and security are concerned.

In addition to the hot swappable batteries and fingerprint reader the T440s sports three USB 3.0 ports, VGA, mini DisplayPort, Ethernet and both SIM and SD card readers. Between that and its FHD touch display, this laptop already gives the thinner and lighter (though smaller) MacBook Air a run for its money in some regards.

Hot swap to your hearts content

Like Lenovos ThinkPad X240 and T440, the T440s was built with two batteries: a 3-cell juice pack on the inside and your choice of an external 3-cell or 6-cell battery. Thanks to Lenovos Power Bridge technology, you can swap batteries on the fly without shutting down the machine – as long as the internal battery has power, of course.

With the 3-cell battery attached

While the technology nearly defeated the purpose of the X240s 12.5-inch form factor, it makes at least a little more sense on a rig thats 14 inches and inherently heavier. Lenovo promises up to 17 hours of life out of this laptop with the 6-cell battery attached. I didnt witness quite as lengthy a show of endurance, but it was nevertheless impressive.

Daunting displays of lasting power aside, there is one important consideration to keep in mind, the 6-cell external battery immediately shatters the T440ss ultrabook classification, adding an additional 0.43 inches to its thickness. Not to mention that the extra juice bumps this laptops weight from an already-dense 3.9 pounds (thanks, touchscreen) to a hefty 4.2 pounds.

And with the 6-cell battery hooked in

That puts the T440s in an interesting position. Its heavier than most other business-friendly laptops, but it offers longevity superior to most laptops in any category. As important as it is today, endurance isnt everything, so lets take a closer look at what else the T440s offers.

Fujifilm FinePix F60fd

T3 Magazine passed me the latest digicam to test.

And I wasnt impressed.

Not that its not good. Its every inch an F-series.

For those who doesnt know, the Fujifilm F-series are well known for their high ISO image quality and recently their advancement in face recognition algorithm. These have already been demonstrated in the F100fd, Fujifilms flagship model for the F-series, boasting 5x optical zoom.

For F60fd, its an improvement over F50fd, with a larger LCD monitor at 3", the better Face Detection 3.0 just like F100fd. Plus a new Auto Scene Recognition mode that automatically selects the scene mode, like Portrait, Macro, Landscape, etc.

Ya, thats about it. Internally, the interface remains unchanged, the CCD sensor is the same, the quality is the same.

F60fd is just a camera upgrade and a means of Fujifilm to flood the market with another model in case consumers felt that the F50fd is outdated, which incidentally, was launched just early this year.

Its being weeks now since Puy0 dropped the bombshell that his team is shutting down Hackulous and stopping support for the popular Installous app on most jailbroken idevices.
While this is a good thing for some folks like app developers and Apple but its not good for those that like to test out apps before purchasing. Also, some people that like cracked apps will also feel the jolt of not having Installous anymore.

iOS6.1 untethered jailbreak on iPhones iPods and iPads have been achieved with the help of the Evasi0n tool, the need for installation of cracked apps and Cydia apps have increased more than ever. Although, Installous in no more, there are a couple of alternatives out there that will fill the space that Installous left behind.
These alternatives are stated below.
It should be noted that this is note to encourage piracy and the use of cracked applications but for educational purposes and also for the majority of people that would want to test out an app before going to spend their dollars in purchasing an app that might turn out shitty or great.

For you to have these alternative Installous apps, you are required to jailbreak your device (iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, iPod and iPad on iOS 4.x or higher).

For vShare, all you need to do is add the repo http://repo.appvv.com and then you can download vShare to your device

Alternatively, you can also download apps from websites like www.pandaapp.com, torrents sites etc and then transfer into your device using iFunbox, iTools etc and then install on your device.
Provided you have AppSync for your device OS version installed, the downloaded apps will work well.

Immediately you test out the installed app and feel satisfied with the product, you can then delete and purchase the original version from App Store or Cydia.

Stephen Elop suggests an October release for Windows Phone 8

Speaking to the New York Times, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop let it slip that the upcoming successor to Windows Phone 7, namely WP8, will be coming in October of this year.



This would make perfect sense because of the imminent October 26 release of Windows 8, so its within the realm of possibility that there could be a simultaneous launch of both operating systems.

Elop did not go on to confirm that the launch would coincide with the release of new WP8 devices, despite the fact that he was was discussing Nokias Q2 earnings when he said that WP8 would further lift sales of Lumia devices.
